Alaa Salah urged the United Nations to press for the equal participation of women in Sudan’s transition. Ms Salah attended the Security Council meeting on women, peace and security as a representative of MANSAM, the coalition of Sudanese women’s civil and political groups.

Ms Salah also called for the immediate transferral of deposed president Omar al-Bashir to the custody of the International Criminal Court, and for international efforts to end impunity for human rights violations in Sudan. She also demanded the international community to end arms exports to Sudan, warning that of the risk that any weapons would be used to perpetrate sexual and gender-based violence.
