BREAKING THE SILENCE: OUR VOICES WILL NOT GO UNHEARD

Justice For Salwa Is Justice For All

We are determined to build the Libya we have always dreamed of….
We may become disappointed or get let down but we will never give up for Libya – no matter how long the struggle takes.

Breaking the Silence

Salwa was not alone in her struggle for democracy, justice, and equal rights. And tragically, too many lives are lost to the cowardly acts of those who fear this progress. Often, however, these stories go untold- lost in the daily media cycle, or suppressed by those who argue that violence against women is “their moral right”.

The Justice for Salwa campaign provides a platform for the millions of women who continue to struggle against exclusion, oppression, coercion, and violence to break the silence and raise awareness about the need for change.

The lack of platforms for women’s rights and needs is at the core of the problem of violence against women in the Arab region and Africa. The murder of activists like Salwa, Iraqi human rights lawyer Samira Saleh al-Naimi, and Somali singer Saado Ali Warsame serve to demonstrate the value and importance of women’s voices in politics, in peace-building and public life. These courageous women were targeted because the gunmen who murdered them realized their potential to make real and lasting change” ~ Hibaaq Osman
