Director of Programs, Egypt

Prior to Karama, the Director of Programs in Egypt worked on the US AID and National Council for Women project “Combating Violence Against Women.” She also worked for eight years in women’s programs including as a psychologist to battered women at the El Nadim Center for Rehabilitation and as a campaigner to add an antiviolence law on the only independent coalition in Egypt. Outside of her NGO work, the Director of Programs in Egypt has extensive experience as a trainer on gender issues, rehabilitation, and children’s rights, and has a PhD in Psychology with a special focus on children.

Financial and Administrative Manager, Egypt

Before joining Karama, the Financial and Administrative Manager worked for nine years as the Administrative and Accounting Manager for the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and the Royal Netherlands Embassy. In this role, she collaborated on two projects for mainstreaming women in agricultural policies and practices.

Program Officer

Prior to joining Karama in late 2009, the Program Officer worked for two years as the Human Rights Education Officer at the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies. At the University of Geneva, she earned her Master’s in Political Science and has gained experience with capacity building, education and human rights work through her internships at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, the Centre-Europe Tiers Monde in Geneva and the International Crisis Group in Nairobi, Kenya. 

Program Assistant

The Program Assistant holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Accounting from Cairo University. Prior to joining Karama, she held several administrative positions in the field of education and petroleum.

Coordinator of Karama, Jordan

Prior to joining Karama in 2007, the Jordan Coordinator worked for nine years at Sisterhood is Global Institute (SIGI) as its Programs and Events Coordinator and worked for the Arab Women Organization as Coordinator of the “Supporting Women in Municipal Councils” project. She is a freelance professional trainer on the rights of citizenship and human rights of women, and served as the head of Women’s Union (Amman Branch) from 1994 to 1995.

Financial and Administrative Manager, Jordan

An integral part of the Karama management team since 2007, the Financial and Administrative Manager’s prior experiences include management, finance, human resources management and project coordination at a nonprofit organization. She received a Master’s in Business Administration from The Arab Academy for Banking and Financial Sciences in Jordan.

Director of International Advocacy and Program Planning (USA)

Prior to joining Karama at its outset in 2004, the Director of International Advocacy and Program Planning worked for seven years at the Global Fund for Women followed by several years as a consultant to international women's organizations and foundations including V-Day, AWID, the Women's Funding Network, Urgent Action Fund for Women's Human Rights, and Cause&Affect. She is also a documentary filmmaker and a strategist for film-related social impact campaigns, with a special focus on the issue of violence against women.

Communications Fellow (USA)

After earning her Master’s in Creative Writing at the University of Southern California, the Communications Fellow began work in social advocacy as an Executive Assistant at Cause&Affect, a social marketing firm based in Los Angeles. She joined Karama in early 2009, and also works as a fiction writer whose work explores strong female voices.
