Assess Mechanisms for Intervention at the International Level
Karama partners promote women’s rights, protection, and security through a variety of mechanisms. The UN international human rights mechanisms are useful intervention points to leverage and increase pressure on a government. While some governments might sidestep NGO advocacy at home, they must answer the issues raised by UN Special Rapporteurs, Universal Periodic Review (UPR), and UN treaty bodies. NGO participation in these processes is a valuable and safe way to build advocacy experience and to bring traction to a call to action.
